This was a joy to watch, especially with Droid's song in the background! My favorite shot was the one with all of them hanging out in the cabin; you did a great job of showing each character's personality in just a few moments (it also took a few loops for me to notice the ghostly guy on the rug - there's the beauty in watching this more than once). Another thing that really grabbed my attention was the subtle camera movement; it can be easy to miss, but it really does go a long way in making the scenes feel even more lively. Great work!

I love this! It's great to see a submission that didn't use the typical imagery of summer, but was still able to convincingly portray the season thanks to the warm color palette. The choice in song was great, too - it paired so well with the art and the story in the bio! All in all, I think you did a really good job of translating your real-life experience with these characters. (Oh, and I love the easter eggs in the billboards!)

Just one question: what are the green and red lights down in the lower left corner there?

MicroBihon responds:

those were clothes LOL, i should have used less saturated colors XD

I love, love, love it! My favorite thing about it is how truly alien these designs are. I feel like you can see bits and pieces of inspiration drawn from animals on earth, but the shapes, textures, and colors are so out-there, it just grabs my imagination. Plus, the composition and juxtaposition of what I think are organic ships up there draw me in, and make me imagine what kind of story is going on here - are these creatures that are the result of genetic molding and sculpting, like all the races from All Tomorrows? Or is there a planet with such strange properties, these are just the natural result? Everything about this is just awesome.

Plus, you can never go wrong with melting popsicles for flora.

Another really cool piece! I've been loving your character designs lately, and would love to pick your brain a little. What does your creative process for these look like? Some of the titles had such good wordplay (i.e. Magnificent Mindables, War-ator), that it felt like the idea for the pun came first, and then you designed the character around it. Did that happen, or am I totally off? These designs are so creative (The Can of Whorms and Joe the Jawless are some personal faves), I'd be so happy to hear more about how you come up with your ideas/where you're drawing inspiration from!

jouste responds:

hey there! great question!

So my head's always been full of ideas. Most of the characters are drummed up when I'm getting a loose pose happening and I try and think of something ridiculous or something that hasn't really been seen before, like the idea of Asahi being able to surf on swords because she was raised by them. I wanted to make someone surfing on a sword, then I thought "well how is she that familiar with swords that she can surf.. oh! familiar, FAMILY! great!" But then again, sometimes I am watching some vampire movie and I go "huh... VampWIRE haha" and then have to draw it. So there is definitely a mix.

but the basics are, i lay out some big shapes and start drawing props in their hands or getting their head brushed in, I typically think about "what if this person was so good at ______ that they could use it like in a martial arts kind of way..." then I say to myself "maybe they are really good at reading aloud" and if I make myself laugh I tend to go for it and try to crowbar in a clever name after.

thanks for asking and I hope that I answered some of your question!

Just an awesome way to end the Daily Imagination series! It has such a sense of scale and awe, just like a ton of other pieces from the series. Having the man as little more than a blue dot on the orange world really gives me a vibe of him being out of his element by a long shot.

I know this is gonna sound really cheesy, and might be a little off-topic, but I wanted to say thanks for doing the Daily Imagination series. I haven't been able to look at every one each day, but whenever I got the chance, I really looked forward to them. They were a real treat, and they've been really helpful in my own development as an artist. I've used them more times than I can count as references, not necessarily in the designs themselves, but studying the way they were made; I've been fascinated with the way you seem to be able to improv designs on a daily basis, and how you use your painterly style to put them together quickly. Once again, I've tremendously enjoyed the series, and can't wait to see what you do going forward!

Xephio responds:

Thanks for the kind words, LDAF. I am very glad I've helped you in some way with my dailies and wish you nothing but the best of luck with your own journey in becoming a great artist!

And I hope I can keep helping people because I won't stop making paintings any time soon, that's for sure

Neat! It's always really cool to look back at old stuff that devs have done, especially things that never came to light. Was this done with rotoscoping? Kind of looks like it.

MindChamber responds:

close! a mixture of traditional animation and primative 3d geometry used to keep the volume as accurate as possible. Is how the new kof games are made, and I did it like 8 years ago :-p

Brings back a lot of memories! It was always nice to get a look at the artwork at the end of each campaign. It's very well detailed and just oozes with your crazy style, especially the use of color and sketchy outlines. I'm just kinda surprised you're not getting a ton of reviews here begging for certain characters in NGR2, since you basically confirmed it in Jak's review there, haha. :P

Horrid teacher!

How could she possibly give this anything less than an A, let alone F? Everyone knows that the picture shows a great battle in which Columbus fights for HIS land. See, we were in America first, then the Indians came from Asia circa 503 B.C., then to avoid genocide, escaped to Mexico. We knew we had a better naval fleet than air or ground attack, so here we are showing the barbarians who's boss! ;D

BIOLLANTE!

When I saw this on the front page, I thought "Ooh, neat, dinosaur thing. :3" then when I went down and read the description, I just about had a nerdgasm. I love Godzilla! Great details and shading; you expertly nailed the teeth, which I never seem to be able to do. I love how viscous you made her look, it really hearkens back to what it originally was meant to be. I even like this better than the Godzilla Unleashed version. Now if we can get Godzilla brawler 4...

TheKillustrator responds:

You should follow me on deviantart, too. thekillustrator.deviantart.com. I'm part of a couple groups on there who are big into Godzilla fandom. It's kinda cool.

:3

Nice piece! You did very well considering you only had a mouse. The facial expressions are funny, and I think you've finally found your style. Just a bit of shading and this pic would be all set! :D
