This was really cool! I don't think I ever fully "clicked" with the motion controls, but they were definitely a lot more comfortable than the swipe method. The music was super catchy, the colors and designs were fun, and frankly, I'm impressed you got motion controls working for a web game! It reminded me of Wiicade from waaaay back in the day, when folks would use the Wii's internet browser to run Flash with motion controls. Great stuff!

3p0ch responds:

Thanks, and maybe there are better ways of doing motion controls -- I posted how to read motion sensors in web games in the comments, so hopefully some more devs can take a crack at it too and we can see what "feels" best after a bunch of people try stuff out.

This was pretty fun! I especially loved the SFX and music, along with the mini game to clean up the bug guts. I did run into some pretty significant bugs (not flies, unfortunately) early on, though. Most of my issues came in the 2nd level, and prevented me from continuing with the game. I'd get every fly, but my health would go down for some reason at seemingly random intervals. It might be possible that there are flies spawning off-screen, so I don't even see them before they go to the top of the screen. If it changes anything, I'm on a Pixel 4a on Chrome. Otherwise, I enjoyed what I saw!

AhWham responds:

Thank you for letting me know! I've marked it down to a mobile-only glitch I call "Ghost Fly". Basically when you kill a fly, sometimes it'll ignore that for some reason and the collider box will be still active and take away your health. I'm looking into the issue and trying to get it fixed as so as possible.

Edit: Should be fixed now, in case flies were attacking offscreen I utilized better minimal WebGL to have the whole screen fit. There may be some slowdown on older mobile phones like mine (iPhone 6s)

This is really good! It's definitely one of the strongest entries I've seen from the mobile jam so far. I'm really appreciating the level of polish, first and foremost - all the elements related to presentation, like the visuals and the way the game adapts to the screen size, work really well. As for the game itself, it's really cool that you've managed to layer in all those mechanics listed in the description. I got to see some of them in action, but I'm going to agree with what some other folks said so far - the character feels just a bit too heavy. I got the hang of it after some time, but I still would've preferred that the character was lighter so you could more easily react to what's on the screen. All that said, this is a really great idea with a great execution!

ImmanentDeath responds:

Thank you! I went back and forth on a lot of stuff in this game, so I'm glad things are working together.

I will say that my strategy for dodging things is to go in whichever direction I'm already moving. Like if I was falling and I'm on my way back up, I'll dodge a particle by falling further because I already have momentum in that direction. It's much faster than trying to go back up.

MrClam said pretty much everything on my mind pretty well. The art and sounds are fantastic, but the game and dialogue need a ton of work. I'm just not finding the game all that fun yet. The combat feels dull; some sort of combo system worked into the sword would work well. The leveling and quest system is interesting, though.

Story and presentation-wise, the dialogue is full of little errors and clashes with the tone; using emoticons in a dark fantasy makes absolutely no sense at all. The UI could also use some polishing up, but being an alpha, that's not a big deal. On the positive side, the speaker performs his job perfectly! Sounds like a grandfather telling a story, and that suits this so well.

I hope the game is updated greatly over time; I'd even argue against uploading a pre-alpha to begin with, but I won't make a big deal out of that considering this is polished enough.

LDAF, thanks for playing our pre alpha demo. We are currently looking for an editor/writer to help us polish a lot of the writing. If you know of anyone the job description is here > http://steamcommunity.com/groups/a-dragon-named-coal/discussions/1/610574827757077836/
You are right about releasing a pre alpha. But we consider this to be a crucial stage for feedback and would much rather hear people's reactions now than when the whole game is completed.

A deep, emotional tale of virtue and redemption. It really could use a scoreboard though, I think it'd really add to the experience.

AerionsRealm responds:

Scoreboard is a great idea. :D

Pretty damn good! I was really impressed with how the levels came out with everything randomized; some were hit and miss, but some were so well made I could've sworn they were done by a person. Fun music, the art looked nice, the story was nice and silly for the holidays..overall, a great package!

Zanzlanz responds:

Thanks for your review LDAF! :D

My favorite part is the generator - it makes the game challenging for even me to play it each time! I'm sure it wouldn't affect most players if it was randomized or not though, but whatever x)

I agree that some levels are VERY clever. It makes me chuckle some times when I get into a puzzle that I would never have come up with myself xD

I don't often add stories to my games, but when I do... lol xD
Thanks again!

Cool

That's some very helpful info, I think I'll use it in my first flash. :3

yay

Great

Great tutorial, fantastic job, and is helping out a lot. Great job. :D

Aprime responds:

Thanks man! Thanks for the review!
:D

Good job

I loved how many dozens (probably hundreds) of features in this game/gadget. The music was a nice idea too. Each and every icon was very customizable. Though this isn't my favorite type of game, I did have some fun with it, and I see how much effort was put into this. Kudos to you.

smokinjoeevil responds:

Thanks... strangely enough, I'm not really into the "dress-up" type of game myself. Though I find this offers a lot more creative outlet, and I certainly tried to build enough variety into it in terms of content and controls to keep it interesting.

Thanks for the review!

Really cool

This is great, both this and the other tutorial are great, and it's creative how your character runs around while reading the directions. Very helpful. :) (Oh, and if you choose to reply to this, please don't tell me how and when you orgasmed, I don't need to know that XD)

TheShyGuy responds:

Glad you liked it! ;o!
